Moonlight Kisses

I roll over to look outside my bedroom window. There’s not much light left in the sky, but in the distance over the woods, the dark blue of the rising night is still working on swallowing the pink, purple and orange that remains from the still setting sun. The stars are beginning to grace the darkness with their twinkling, glittery presence. I can feel the crisp September air through the open windows. The scents of the autumn night fill my nostrils and sounds of brittle leaves rustling in the light breeze fill my ears. The clock on my nightstand reads eight-sixteen. “Great. I’ve killed an entire day,” I said as I hit myself in the forehead with my left hand.
